Description:
GMB conducted a collection of basic staple items for the Women’s Residential and Counseling Center (WRCC) in December, 2008. The WRCC serves as a transitional living facility for two populations: victims of crime who need emergency shelter, and homeless women and their children who have found employment or are completing their education while they prepare themselves for their own homes. In their last fiscal year, 74 percent of the women and children living at WRCC were victims of crime, predominantly domestic violence. WRCC is a part of the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, which was created in 1987 by a group of concerned citizens who noted a growing problem of homelessness in the community. The Coalition is now the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida.
WRCC offers many programs to assist their residents, but GMB staff felt that starting off 2009 with “the basics” was important. We collected over $800 worth client supplies from baby formula, soap, over the counter medication, towels, toilet paper and phone/gift cards for the residents at WRCC. GMB staff delivered our collection of supplies on December 23rd to a very excited and appreciative staff. We are looking forward to more successful collections and outreach efforts for the staff and residents at WRCC.
